Relay For Life - Committee Member - Campbell, Pendleton, Mason, Bracken Counties

You can't have a Relay For Life event without three things...survivors, teams, and committee members. Being a committee member means that you are a part of the group of people that plan and execute the actual Relay For Life event. The committee is composed of many different people with many different skills for the many different features of Relay For Life. Led by "chairs," some committee members focus on growing the event, like recruiting new teams, finding sponsors, survivors, helping teams learn more about Relay For Life and the American Cancer Society. Other committee members focus on event production, like event night activities, logistics, planning ceremonies, advertising the event, and much more. Every committee in every event is always looking for new members. The success of an event depends on having new committee members bringing fresh ideas each year. If you are someone who is passionate about the fight against cancer, is motivated to fight back, wants to represent the American Cancer Society in your community...then you are a committee member. Archives Internship

DEPARTMENT: Archives and Manuscripts Department DEADLINE: Friday, March 26, 2010 before 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary goal is to prepare archival collections containing genealogical information for use by researchers. The National Genealogical Convention is coming to Cincinnati in May 2012 and this intern position will help the department prepare for these researchers. The intern will process a collection of interest to genealogists. Tentatively, the collection selected for this project is the records of the New Orphan Asylum for Colored Youth. The intern may also work on creating a summary guide to all archival collections held by the department. The project will include data entry, database work and historical research. QUALIFICATIONS: The intern must be a college student with an interest in history and archival work. Detail oriented. Ability to do research and to write clearly. Ability to print neatly. Experience with Microsoft Word. Ability to follow instructions and to handle archival materials with care. Prefer experience working in a library or archives. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This is a part-time, unpaid position with a flexible schedule of Monday-Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Digital and Media Internship

Scan and organize extensive collection of 35 mm slides. Contact holders of copyrights and licenses for images, audio and video for Freedom’s Sisters exhibit in order to extend or renew licenses for exhibit tour extension. Requires extensive use of email and telephone resources. (This is contingent on CMC and SITES committing to this project, which may not be until December, 2009) QUALIFICATIONS: Strong organizational skills Strong communication skills Computer skills and familiarity with MS Word and Excel, Adobe Photoshop and/or similar software ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This department has accumulated years of photos, slides and files in different formats; tasks A. and B. require a fine hand in organization and attention to detail. Task C. requires the same as well as great amounts of patience, persistence and tact.

Evening Events Internship

Registration Internship /Collections Database Project

DEPARTMENT: Collections: Registration DEADLINE: Friday, March 26, 2010 before 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time RESPONSIBILITIES: Intern will work with the Assistant Registrar/Senior Registrar and a Curator on a variety of database clean-up and cataloging tasks.Training in the collections database software KE EMu will be provided. The intern will be provided with a discrete data clean-up project such as verifying History Object Catalog Data with paper records and bibliographic references or linking image files to catalog entries in the database using standardize image standards. Interns will spend some time working directly with the collections as part of the internship, either in cataloging new objects directly into the computer database or reconciling database entries with actual specimens. History and Archaeology Collections will be the curatorial disciplines for the projects; Registration files such as incoming/outgoing loans and new acquisitions records will be the content areas for the internships. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be comfortable working on computers and experience with databases is preferred. Knowledge of and/or education in Cincinnati history and local archaeology is sought for catalog verification tasks. Interest in managing and preserving museum collections is desirable. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: In 2008, CMC moved to a new database software call KE EMu as part of its commitment to make collections more accessible to a wider audience and through a variety of media. All data records need to be verified and corrected after the conversion process – more than 200,000 object/specimen records. The purpose of this project is to assist CMC in creating an accurate database record of its three dimensional artifact collections and natural history specimens. Once the data are verified and images linked to data records, CMC will be able to produce on-line exhibits based on our collections, provide specimen information for researchers and allow visitors a larger look into our collections. This is a behind-the-scene position based at the Geier Collections & Research Center.

Museum of Natural History & Science Administrative Internship

Assist in research and development of programs as needed. General office work including using Excel and Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook programs. Incorporating State Standards to floor programs. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be out-going, friendly, and energetic and have a positive attitude. Desire and ability to work with the public, particularly school groups and families, in an informal education environment. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting. Must possess excellent communication and good listening, mediating and organizational skills. Knowledge of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana State education standards is helpful. Background in science education a plus. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Flexible work hours. Valid driver’s license preferred. Candidate should be able to stand or sit for at least one hour or more. Candidate should also be able to walk up and down two flights of stairs and navigate floors that are uneven and/or ramped. Occasional lifting of programs supplies, office supplies, and exhibit items is required. Items may weigh 10 pounds or more.

Project Detail: Given a budget of approximately $5,000 to spend, the goal of the plan will be two-fold (1) To make Business Partners Weekend into an “experience” for the employees and their families and build goodwill towards the institution and their corporation’s involvement, and (2) To increase the up-sell potential when employees arrive in the Museum and entice them to become members. The successful applicant should possess a sound knowledge of American History or a related field, interest in material culture, as well as excellent writing and editing abilities. Data entry experience is essential. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: The Cincinnati Museum Center History Object Collection is comprised of more than forty thousand historical objects and works of art related to the social, cultural & economic history of Cincinnati and Southwest Ohio; it is one of the fastest growing collections at the Museum Center. Specific collections include: Cincinnati business & industry: brewing, machine tools and furniture; Civil War uniforms, weapons & equipment; 19th and 20th century lighting devices; historic clothing & textiles; decorative arts; fine art: paintings, lithographs and drawings. The Cincinnati Museum Center History Collections Department offers a wide variety of research opportunities and hands-on museum experience.

Marketing & Advertising Internship

Work collaboratively with community partners and help to develop and maintain appropriate community partners for various projects. Maintaining the planning and implementation of integrated marketing and communications plans for exhibits, films and special programs. Follow through with other departments to identify goals and objectives in order to develop strategic marketing plans to accomplish them. Learn how we take individual marketing budgets and determine the most strategic way to allocate the budget through various mediums. Work with the graphic design department to implement creative elements for ads. Other duties as necessary. Day Camps Internship

DEPARTMENT: Public Education DEADLINE: Friday, March 26, 2010 before 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time RESPONSIBILITIES: Will interact daily with Day Camp staff and campers. Must assist with scheduled programming. Must assist staff with the supervision of day campers during the lunch period. Education background or experience preferred. Will be responsible for developing 1 day of themed lesson plans for Day Camps 2010. Will be responsible for overseeing campers at Day Camps in regards to their safety and enjoyment of Programs. Will be responsible for developing a parent and child evaluation form for day camp quality and satisfaction, to be handed out weekly on Friday morning to parents and campers. QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred candidate will be entering his/her Junior or Senior year of college and will have completed at least two years in a marketing and/or business program. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel Outlook, and PowerPoint) and have exposure to budgeting process. Preferred candidate will have a friendly and outgoing personality with an eye for detail and be able to work independently. The Isaiah Project

Thomas to load up all the items stored there. After a short meeting, volunteers caravan to 7th and Patterson, Newport and give everything away.

Event Assistants

We are looking for energetic people to assist staff at various fairs, festivals, and events. Some tasks will include helping to set up and take down our table, handing out goodies, and assisting with any activities we’ve set up. Public Representative (Site Check Volunteer)

The main responsibilities of a public representative volunteer would be to visit our partner businesses (Safe Place sites) to ensure that they have everything they need to be a successful Safe Place site. Each visit usually takes around 10 minutes. It’s a great way to feel connected to the local community and an easy way to help kids if you have a busy schedule. There is no schedule or hourly requirements. You can work at your own pace. All we ask is that you finish all of your site checks within 6 months.

Cincinnati History Museum Program Developer

Main responsibility is to assist Cincinnati History Museum staff with program development. Individual will write lesson plans, prepare materials and if interested can present programs on the museum floor. Would also evaluate existing programs for accuracy and educational standards.

Cincinnati History Museum Detective Agency Volunteer

Main responsibility in Cincinnati History Museum is to ensure that all museum guests have a satisfying, educational, enjoyable and safe experience. Work individual or with a team to assist children with solving mysteries. Will help with program sign-ups and documenting program fees. During office time, may be asked to assist and prepare program materials. Needs to feel comfortable dressing in period clothing.

Help at Children, Inc. Early Education and Care Centers

Assisting classroom teachers in preparation of materials for classroom instruction. Help with small repairs at the centers. Help with individual instruction of children.

Subscription Concert Volunteers

The Kentucky Symphony Orchestra is actively seeking volunteers for its 2009-2010 Subscription Series, which runs from late September ‘09 through May ’10. The KSO’s subscription series concerts are held at Notre Dame Academy and Highland High School.

Emergency/Transport Volunteer

Mentor a Covington Elementary Student

Reach out. Become a mentor to a Covington youth. School based mentoring programs are offered at elementary schools in Covington. Adults meet with a student once a week during the school day (8-3) for an average of 30-45 minutes, usually during the students' lunch period. Mentors listen, support, befriend, and encourage local youth. A one year commitment is required. Background checks are required of all volunteers. One-on-one training is provided with a program coordinator before volunteers start to meet with students. On-site program coordinators are available for on going support.

Mentoring in Covington (community based)

Reach out. Become a mentor to a Covington youth. The Community based mentoring program is offered at Holmes Middle School. Adult volunteers are matched with middle school students (6th-8th grade). Adults meet with students once a week after school, in the evening, or on the weekends for an hour. Mentors listen, support, befriend, and encourage local youth. A one year commitment is required. Background checks are required of all volunteers. One-on-one training is provided with a program coordinator before volunteers start to meet with students. On-site program coordinators are available for on going support.

Interact and assist in supervising teens in the Teen Center at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Cincinnati.

Adoptions Counselor

TPC is looking for people interested in becoming an Adoption Counselors. An adoption counselor is trained to review applications and determine if the potential adopter is a responsible pet owner who meets our requirements for adoption. You will be required to approve and deny applicants. Counselors also perform vet checks and check with landlords to make sure adopters live where pets are allowed. Becoming a counselor does involve a training period of assisting other counselors to gain experience with the adoption process. Hours needed: Monday-Friday from 9am-1pm/ 1Pm-3pm Saturday from 10am-2pm and 12(noon) -4pm, and Sunday the same as Saturday
