Mission:
FRIENDS of the SHELTER is a volunteer organization whose purpose is to oppose cruelty in all forms, encourage humane handling and care of animals, advance spay/neuter programs, promote the animal shelters and strive for responsible adoptions and ownership. Please visit the shelters and encourage your friends and acquaintances to consider adopting one of the many homeless animals. They come in all ages, sizes, types and colors.

Description:
Friends of the Shelter volunteers and offers assistance at the animal shelters in Boone, Grant, Kenton, and Campbell counties. We give financial assistance to people needing to have companion animals spayed or neutered. We provide certificates that are used to spay or neuter over 900 animals per year, and we adopt around 100 foster animals per year. Volunteers at Boone County Shelter log over 2,500 hours per year and help the shelter achieve a high adoption rate. Volunteers assist visitors, socialize animals, walk the dogs and groom the animals. We conduct classes in humane handling of animals in the Boone County Schools for intermediate grade level children. We also provide pet therapy to care centers in the Northern Ky area including Woodspoint Care Center in Florence, Florence Park Care Center, and St Luke Hospital. We engage in various other local activities including fundraisers, cruelty/crisis assistance, dog training, animal fostering, and placing pet photos for adoption in local papers and stores.
